The actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan officially announced on Wednesday the name of his political party in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He said his party would be called Makkal Needhi Maiam. Haasan said: “The soul of Tamil Nadu is burning today, the fingers soaked in corruption will be burned, he told his supporters that there will be many more public meetings and that it will not be a single thing.” It is not a matter of a day. It will be a way of life. We are going to create a popular party, today is an example. There will be many of these public meetings. Haasan then invited the Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal, to the stage.

Kamal began his day at the house of former President A P J Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram and moved to Madurai, where he met on the bench. At a public meeting in Madurai, he promised “an honest war” against corruption, education for all, employment for educated youth and a society without caste.
