Saravanan Sivakumar, known by his stage name Suriya, is an Indian film actor, producer and television presenter, best known for his work in Tamil cinema. After making his debut in Nerukku Ner (1997), Suriya landed his breakthrough role in Nandha (2001) and then had his first major commercial success with the thriller Kaakha Kaakha (2003).
Suriya belongs to a film background because his father, his brother and his wife are all actors.
Director Mani Ratnam gave it the name of Suriya, to avoid confusion of names with the actor, Saravanan. When he passed his tenth standard, he received an offer from a manager, but he trusted his appearance and size and continued to complete his career in Commerce. He began his career as a marketing manager in a garment factory and worked there for 3 years. His first salary was 1000 (INR), which offered his mother a sari.
His role as Nandha in the film was the decisive role in his career as an actor that earned him the Best Actor Award.
With his wife Jyothika, he is the founder of the Agaram Foundation that helps abandoned children reintegrate. Her dream is to make a movie and enjoy spending time recording, telling stories and editing to fix herself.
